The Rev. Matthew A. Laferty, director of the Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome, participated on 25 April 2021 in an ecumenical service of remembrance for the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at the Basilica of St. Bartholomew on the Island (San Bartolomeo all’Isola) in Rome. The church has a special memorial to martyrs of the Christian faith from the 20th and 21st centuries. H.Em. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian from the Armenian Apostolic Church presided with H.Em. Cardinal Kurt Koch from the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity preaching. Rev. Laferty read Scripture during the service from the Letter to the Hebrews, including “for you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised” (Hebrews 10:36).
